The word “memorised” is in the official descriptors. 「背诵」确实写在官方评分标准里

It appears three times — at Band 1, Band 2 and Band 3, the bottom three of the nine, and not once above them. The published scale mentions learned-by-heart language only to explain why a low score is low. That is worth sitting with before you memorise another answer. Download as PDF →

Where to look. What it says at those three bands 这三档里写了什么

Every mention is an explanation of absence.三处提及,说的都是「没有」。

Not one of them describes memorised language as evidence of ability. Each one uses it to account for why there is nothing to credit.没有一处把背诵语言当作能力的证据;每一处都在解释为什么没有可评分的东西。

Band 3 · Grammar
Errors are widespread — except inside the memorised parts错误普遍存在 —— 背诵的部分除外
Paraphrased. The most revealing of the three. The descriptor explicitly carves the memorised stretches out of the assessment: accuracy inside them is noted as an exception, not as a credit. The clean sentence does not raise the band, because the scale has already accounted for why it is clean.
转述。三处中最说明问题的一处:评分标准明确把背诵片段从评估中划出去 —— 其中的准确性被记为「例外」,而不是加分项。那一句漂亮的句子不会抬高分数,因为标准已经解释了它为什么漂亮。
Band 2 · Vocabulary
Speech made of single words and fixed learned chunks话语由孤立单词或背诵片段构成
Paraphrased. The vocabulary descriptor at this band describes speech consisting of isolated words or memorised stretches. A recited block is placed in the same category as a candidate who can only produce disconnected single words.
转述。此处的词汇描述指出,考生的话语由孤立单词或背诵片段构成。也就是说,成段背诵与「只能蹦出零散单词」被归在同一类。
Band 1 · Grammar
There is nothing rateable at all unless it was learned by heart除背诵内容外,没有任何可评分的语言
Paraphrased. At the very bottom of the scale, the grammar descriptor states that no language can be rated except what has been memorised. The memorised material is not being scored as grammar. It is named as the reason the examiner has nothing to score.
转述。在评分标准的最底端,语法描述说明:除了背下来的内容,没有可供评分的语言。这里并不是说背诵的部分被当作语法能力打了分,而是说明考官没有东西可评。
The pattern. Across all three, memorised language is treated as something that has to be discounted before a rating can be given. That is the opposite of the assumption behind buying a set of prepared answers.
共同的规律:在这三处里,背诵语言都是评分前需要剔除的东西。这与「买一套背好的答案」背后的假设正好相反。

The structural reason 结构性的原因

Band 7 asks for the one thing a script cannot do.7 分要的,恰好是脚本给不了的。

Vocabulary at Band 7 asks for flexibility
7 分词汇要求「灵活」
The Band 7 vocabulary descriptor is built around using your resource flexibly across a variety of topics. Flexibility is precisely what a fixed answer removes. A script can be impressive; it cannot be flexible, because it was written before the question was asked.
7 分词汇标准的核心是能在不同话题间灵活调用词汇资源。而固定答案恰恰取消了灵活性 —— 脚本可以很漂亮,但不可能灵活,因为它是在问题被问出之前就写好的。
Fluency at Band 7 asks you to keep going
7 分流利度要求「持续说下去」
The Band 7 fluency descriptor is about producing long turns readily, without noticeable effort. A memorised answer does not keep going. It ends. And the part that gets rated is what happens after it ends — which is usually the candidate's real level, arriving suddenly and without preparation.
7 分流利度要求能轻松地持续输出长回答。而背诵的答案不会「持续」,它会结束。真正被评分的,是它结束之后的部分 —— 那通常就是考生的真实水平,毫无准备地突然出现。
Part 3 is designed to go where you did not prepare
Part 3 的设计就是要走到你没准备的地方
Part 3 is a discussion, and a discussion follows what you just said. Every answer you give creates the next question. A bank of prepared answers has no mechanism for that — it can only wait for a topic it recognises.
Part 3 是讨论,而讨论是跟着你刚才说的话走的:你每一个回答都在生成下一个问题。一套背好的答案没有应对机制,只能等待一个它认识的话题。
Official · British Council
“Memorised answers are very obvious and examiners are trained to spot them.”
The same guidance notes that an examiner who suspects a rehearsed answer may ask harder questions in order to find the candidate's actual level. The script does not end the assessment — it redirects it. 同一份官方建议还指出:考官若察觉答案是背的,可能会提出更难的问题,以确定考生的真实水平。脚本不会结束评估,只会改变评估的方向。

Professional judgement, not measurement 经验判断,非量化结论

Three things that give it away.三个最常见的破绽。

This section is my own experience from the classroom in Beijing, not a published finding. Treat it as one teacher's observation.本节是我在北京课堂上的个人经验,不是已发表的研究结论,请当作一位教师的观察。

1  The register jumps
语域突然跳档
One sentence arrives two bands above everything around it, then the speech drops back. Real language does not step up and down like that. Ability has a range; it does not have a single spike.
某一句话的水平比前后高出两个档次,然后又掉回去。真实的语言不会这样上下跳 —— 能力有区间,但不会只有一个尖峰。
2  The rhythm flattens
节奏变平
Recitation and speech carry stress differently. When we are actually thinking, we stress the new information. When we are retrieving, the stress lands on the words we practised. It is audible long before the content gives it away.
背诵和说话的重音落点不同。真正在思考时,重音落在新信息上;在提取记忆时,重音落在练过的地方。这一点在内容露馅之前很久就能听出来。
3  The answer does not move when the question moves
问题变了,答案没变
The most common tell of all. The question asked about a specific angle; the answer covers the topic. It is a good answer to a question that was not asked — and under Fluency and Coherence, not answering the question is exactly what costs marks.
最常见的一种:问题问的是某个具体角度,答案却在讲这个话题。那是一个「答得很好、但答的不是这道题」的回答 —— 而在流利与连贯这一项里,没有回答问题本身就是失分点。
I am describing what tends to be noticeable, not stating what any individual examiner will do or what any individual candidate will score. Nothing here predicts a result.
以上描述的是「通常容易被察觉的特征」,并非任何一位考官必然的做法,也不预测任何考生的成绩。

The distinction that matters 真正的分界线

Preparing is not memorising.准备,不等于背诵。

Nobody is telling you to walk in cold. The question is what you carry in.没有人要你毫无准备地进考场。问题在于你带进去的是什么。

What gets discounted · 会被剔除的
Sentences
  • Whole answers written out and learned word for word
  • Opening formulas recited before every response
  • Idioms inserted because they are “Band 8 phrases”, not because they fit
  • A memorised Part 2 that is delivered whatever the cue card says
  • 整段写好、逐字背下的答案;每题开头必背的套话;因为「是 8 分表达」而硬塞的习语;不管题卡问什么都照说的 Part 2。
What survives contact · 经得起临场的
Sequences
  • A running order for the answer — what comes first, second, third
  • Topic vocabulary you can use in any sentence, not one sentence
  • Your own real experiences, in note form, not in sentences
  • A way of buying half a second that is not “that is a very interesting question”
  • 回答的先后顺序(先说什么、再说什么);能用在任何句子里的话题词汇;用要点形式记下的你自己的真实经历;一个不是「这个问题很有意思」的争取时间方式。
Why the frameworks are sequences. A-R-E, P.P.F.E. and F-E-E-L are orders of thought, not scripts. They tell you what to say next, on a question you have never seen, which is the one thing a memorised answer cannot survive. The three Speaking frameworks →  ·  Practise Part 1 with A-R-E →
这也是这几个框架都是「顺序」而不是「脚本」的原因:A-R-E、P.P.F.E.、F-E-E-L 告诉你的是「下一步说什么」,因此可以用在一道你从没见过的题上 —— 而这恰恰是背诵答案撑不过去的地方。

Method note · 说明
SourcedThat the word appears at Bands 1, 2 and 3 of the public Speaking descriptors, and at no higher band, is checkable in the published PDF linked above. The band attribution here was read from the descriptor table by position, not from a summary. The sentence about examiners being trained to spot memorised answers is quoted from the British Council. The Band 7 vocabulary and fluency points are drawn from the same published descriptors.
Paraphrased, not reproducedDescriptor wording is paraphrased throughout and is not reproduced here. The link is given so you can read the official text at source rather than my summary of it.
OpinionThe three tells — the register jump, the flattened rhythm, the answer that does not move — are my observations from teaching in Beijing. They are professional judgement, not measurement, and I have marked that section as such.
Not claimedI have not said that memorising is treated as cheating, because the published test rules I could find do not say so. What I have said is narrower and better evidenced: memorised language is discounted before a rating is given.
